Guest UI - Combo last order

Summary

When a guest orders items identified as qualifiers in a combo, at payment, the system will automatically group those qualifiers to create a combo menu item. (This is referred to as a "combo last" as the combo is created at the end of the transaction rather than ordered as a combo at the beginning of the transaction. A combo is usually priced less than ordering the menu items individually.)

Rules:

  • Once the guest taps the pay button, the system will automatically check for item qualifiers
  • The system will create combos by picking the first item of each qualifying category and the first corresponding combo available

Configuration (ECM)

Combo menu items are created and configured in ECM in Menu Items. (See Add a Combo Menu Item

  • Combos consist of a group of qualifiers.
    • In this example, the qualifiers for this combo menu item are a food qualifier, a drink qualifier and a side qualifier.
    • Each qualifier consists of one or more menu items.
      • The Food qualifier may have one or more food items
      • The Drinks qualifier may have one or more drink items
      • The Side qualifier may have one or more side items

  • When one item from each qualifier is ordered (a food, a drink, a side, in this case), the automatic logic is applied and the items are grouped into an applicable combo menu item
    • There may be more than one combo menu item that includes these menu qualifiers. If that's the case, the automatic logic selects the first qualifying combo item listed in ECM.

Operation

  • In the Guest-facing User Interface, the guest orders the desired items.
  • When the guest taps I want to pay, the automatic logic reviews the items ordered to verify if they qualify for a combo (with combo pricing applied).
    • If the items qualify for a combo, they are automatically built into the corresponding combo menu item
      • Note: If the items qualify for more than one combo menu item, the automatic logic selects the first qualifying combo item listed in ECM.

Example A - Items qualify for one combo menu item

The guest orders the following menu items (shown in right-side panel) and taps Place my order, which sends the items to the kitchen:

  • Sale, no tax, no mods
  • Bev, refill $, size
  • Side w/ serving option B

The guest taps I want to pay:

  • The automatic logic identifies the ordered items as qualifier items for a combo and groups the items into the corresponding combo

Example B - Items qualify for more than one combo menu item

The guest orders the following menu items (shown in right-side panel) and taps Place my order, which sends the items to the kitchen:

  • Item 1, no mods
  • Bev, refill $, size
  • Side w/ serving option A

The guest taps I want to pay:

  • The automatic logic identifies the ordered items as qualifier items for more than one combo item
  • The automatic logic selects the first corresponding combo as listed in ECM (in this example, Combo 4)
