NorthStar 4.5 release - Summary of Features and Improvements

This document summarizes the major new features and improvements in the NorthStar 4.5 release.  

This document is intended to serve as a quick-start guide to these new items. For more complete information, please refer to the ticket number shown.

OE-10069

Restricted Access to menu items - Manager Only Items

Products > Menu Items > select menu item > General: Restricted: requires job permission to order 

Jobs > Permission: Allow user to order restricted items  


Staff UI: If menu item is marked as restricted and user does not have permission to order restricted items (such as an expensive wine), the menu item will appear disabled and have a lock icon in the upper right corner to indicate it is restricted. 
Manager with job permission can order.

Honor background images for Location Map

ECM > Sites > Layouts - add background image 

From location map, user can add/edit layout background image 

 

OE-9587

As a Manager I want to be able to apply an adjustment to a server's checks while the server is logged in and attached to a location. (MD)

Job Permission required for manager: 
Allow user to discount guest check 
Allow user to discount order item

Manager can swipe card on adjustments screen and adjust check for server that does not have permission; transaction reverts back to server after tapping Done on Adjustments.

Guest Payment: Remove suggested grat percentages; show keypad to enter gratuity

ECM > Sites > Guest Facing - Enable/disable Suggested Gratuity 

When guest-facing suggested gratuity is disabled, the gratuity suggestions aren't shown; screen has a keypad and gratuity field for the guest to enter their own amount of gratuity.

RFID Capability with NSOE using TAP only with mifare card

ECM: 

  • Account feature toggle: 

  • Users > Mag card - Enter BIN range for MiFare card

  • Users - key code matches last four digits of MiFare card

  • Sites > Sites and Groups > select site > PMS tab - Enter the BIN range of the MiFare cards to be used for payment 

 

Allows user to use an RFID card reader and pay with MiFare card by holding card over reader.
System allows user to: 

  • Complete payment POSTING TO PMS Fidelio

  • Perform room inquiry to PMS Fidelio

  • Log in using RFID employee card

Set default to location keypad instead of Location Manager

Account feature toggle: Default to location keypad

Added setting on Sites > Layouts: 
Default to location keypad on login

On login, site will default to location keypad instead of location manager view 

OE-8967

As an admin I can Start/End dates for Adjustments to make them available to managers

Financial > Adjustment reasons - add Start Date and End Date for adjustment reason to be in effect 


Can be used for temporary promotional adjustment, such as a two-week Groupon promo; adjustments will be available on app during effective date period

  • Start Date: After being deployed, component becomes available to order on the Start Date and time.

  • End Date: Component is no longer available to order on the End Date and time.

Barcodes on Receipts

Account - Feature toggle: Print Bar Codes on Receipt

Sites > Receipts > Bar Codes - select option: 

  • Print item bar code on receipt with or without price check digit

  • Print bar code on bottom of receipt with one of the following embedded: 

    • check total

    • total price of items without check digit

      • total price of items with check digit

To set barcode for menu item:

  • Products > Menu items > General - enter barcode in PLU/Barcode Number field 

Bar code prints after each parent item

Can also print at bottom of check with check total or total price of items barcoded

Staff view locations: Make CC pre-authorization available

CC pre-auth is enforced if menu category and location require pre-auth

  • Sites > Areas > General - flag Pre Auth

  • Location - Flag CC Pre-Auth

  • Menu item category - Payment pre-authorization required

CC/GC via External Device in Guest UI Payment

Configure external payment device for iPad: 
Sites > Devices > Available Payment Devices 

Sites > Guest facing > Payment not allowed is not flagged 

Guest facing payment screen will prompt user to pay with credit card or gift card on payment terminal or pay with cash (no swipe on attached MagTek device)

Account Feature toggle: MSR/Mifare Swipe for Areas

Sites > Area - Set MSR Default Behavior to either Swipe (default) or MiFare

Users > Mag card - set BIN range for users' mag cards

Users - Verify key code matches last four digits of Mifare card 

Sites > Sites and Groups > site > PMS - set BIN range for guests' Mifare cards 

Setting will determine which option is set as the default on the login keypad. User can switch from Swipe to RFID on the login keypad by tapping the link. 

 

If card reader is disconnected, neither option appears:

Enable PLU button for faster data entry

Requires account feature toggle: PLU/Barcode search 

PLU/Barcode menu item is configured in ECM. (OE-10122) 

Products > Menu items > add Menu item
Select PLU/Barcode entry from type of menu item drop-down. Complete the menu item form. 

Exclusions:
• PLU/Barcode menu item should not be available for ordering on guest UI locations (kiosk and guest-facing)

Tap PLU item to order; enter PLU/Barcode number or scan to add item to check panel. 
Items must be: 

  • Active

  • Included in an active menu item category

  • On an active day part menu

If PLU/Barcode number has multiple matches:

  • System will choose the item whose category is displayed first.

  • If items are in the same category, the item chosen will be the one that is displayed first in the menu.

Payroll report (app): Allow labor reporting to report in 1-week window instead of the current 2-week window (MD)

Sites > Store Hours - flag setting: 
Set pay period to one week

Per setting, the following reports will report in one-week periods:

In guest-facing, the component categories are collapsed by default. The user can click on the caret to expand and display the components in each category.
