Combo Menu Item - Qualifiers

Summary 

Combo menu items are configured to include two or more menu items that qualify for combo pricing when the items are ordered together. Each combo is made up of qualifiers (such as Food, Side and Beverage) and each qualifier includes specific menu items (such as salmon (Food qualifier), rice (Side qualifier) and coffee (Beverage qualifier). The menu item hierarchy could look like this, where the qualifiers to create a combo are Food, Side and Beverage: 

If a guest orders Food A, Side B and Bev B, their order would qualify as a combo.  

Configuration 

Path: Products > Menu items > edit a combo menu item > Qualifiers tab 

In the example below, the qualifiers for the combo menu item are Food, Side and Beverage. Each qualifier can have one or more menu items that apply to that qualifier. (Example: A "Side" qualifier might include menu items such as side salad, cup of soup, fries, etc.) 

When a customer orders a specified menu item from each of the qualifiers, together that group of items qualifies as a combo and is eligible for combo pricing. 


The Qualifiers grid contains the following elements:

Three of the columns can be filtered to narrow your results using specific criteria: 

  • Name
  • Order Item Quantity Required
  • Display Order 

Click the filter icon to expose the filter menu: 

Edit (pencil icon) Click edit icon to launch the selected qualifier's edit page 
NameA name given to the qualifier for identification
Required Quantity The quantity required to be ordered for the designated qualifier to qualify for combo pricing 
Required dollar minimumMinimum dollar threshold required in order for the designated qualifier to qualify for combo pricing
Display OrderThe order in which the qualifiers are displayed on the ordering application 
Display order controls 

Use the controls to move a qualifier up or down in the Display Order; the qualifiers will be shown in this order on the Build Combo page

DeleteClick to delete the selected qualifier; the combo will no longer require this qualifier to qualify for combo pricing
Save/Cancel/Apply

Save and close the page
Cancel changes and return to previous page 
Apply changes and remain on page 

Add a qualifier 

  • Add the qualifiers that make up the combo, e.g., salad + entree + beverage, or food + side + beverage.
    • Click the Qualifiers tab, then click Add Qualifier

  • Enter name and required quantity. Enter required dollar minimum, if applicable. Click Save to save the entries or Cancel to discard and close the pop-up
  • After saving, the qualifier will display in the Qualifiers grid.

Edit a qualifier

  • To edit a qualifier, click the pencil icon . The Edit - Qualifier page will display:
    • Qualifier Name
    • For qualification only - Select the checkbox if the qualifier can be used to create a combo but the qualifier will not be discounted. 
    • Required Quantity
    • Required dollar minimum
    • Qualifiers Summary - This will display the menu items and menu item categories for this qualifier. (Shown below.) 
      • If you're creating a new qualifier, add the menu items and menu item categories on the Menu Items and Menu Item Categories tabs. 

Note: If the combo menu item is a Prevailing Price combo type, the qualifier will include an Upcharge Criteria tab. 

Menu Items tab

  • Select a menu item category from the drop-down.
  • Name - The menu items within that category will display in the grid.
  • Select Active for the menu items that will be qualifiers for this combo. 
  • Default - If desired, select a menu item as the default. It will be preselected in the app when the combo is ordered. 

  • Prevailing Price combo type will include columns for Upcharge Components and Upcharge Serving Options
    • Upcharge Components - All non-default priced components added to an order item will be an additional charge to the prevailing price of a combo (e.g., adding guacamole to a burger for an additional charge of .50.).
    • Upcharge Serving Options  - All non-default priced serving options that have been added to an order item will be an additional charge to the prevailing price of a combo (e.g., changing a default "small" beverage serving option to a "large" for an upcharge of .99). 


  • Menu Item Categories - If a menu item category is selected, all menu items in that category become available to be chosen for the combo (e.g., Beverages) instead of only the menu items selected on the Menu Items tab.

  • Prevailing Price combo type will include columns for Upcharge Components and Upcharge Serving Options

  • The Upcharge Criteria tab allows items to be added to the combo at an upcharge.  

  • Click Add Upcharge. Enter a name and select the menu item.
