PAX Installation Quick Start

This outline is an overview of steps required to successfully set up PAX terminals in your Order Entry environment. This overview assumes that you have an existing Order Entry site configured in ECM with Order Entry POS devices configured. See Configuring NorthStar Order Entry - archive.

  1. Make sure that you have all of your information:
    1. Who is your processor and how do you get your PAX terminals?

      PAX Terminal HardwareCBSCBSHeartland
      PAX Terminal ConfigurationCBSTSYSHeartland
    2. For each PAX terminal, know:
      1. What is the Serial Number?
      2. What IP address do I want it to be (includes IP Address, Netmask, Gateway, and DNS server) – ALL MUST BE SPECIFIED

  2. Make sure the PAX terminals have been set up and provisioned by the company that manages the PAX Terminal Configuration (see Payment Terminal Setup).

  3. Set up the PAX terminals in ECM in the following order:
    1. Site Payment Processor
      1. Go to Site and select Payment tab. Set up the Payment processor: FDMS, TSYS or Heartland

    2. Site Peripherals: A peripheral must be created for each PAX terminal.
NOTE: that you must know the IP address of each PAX terminal in your site before you can use it.

    3. Site Payment Devices - archive: For each Order Entry POS device that will be associated with a PAX terminal, click the Device Peripheral tab and select the appropriate PAX terminal from the Available Payment Devices drop-down list.

NOTE: ECM allows a PAX payment terminal to be associated with only one Order Entry POS device.

    4. Publish your changes

Important Information to Note

  • If the IP address on the PAX terminal does not match ECM, the Order Entry system will not be able to access the PAX terminal.
  • Static IP addresses are preferred and supported by Custom Business Solutions. DHCP is not recommended.
  • Local time must be set on each terminal. If the time is not set correctly on a PAX terminal, it may batch at an unexpected time and cause issues with tip adjusts, voids, and/or refunds.
  • See PAX Terminal FAQ and Payment Terminal Setup for common troubleshooting resolutions.
