Component Pricing

Summary

Component pricing is used for products that could be layered with multiple components, such as an item with toppings, for example. This allows for a layered pricing scheme for the components, which is commonly used with pizza sales.

(Pricing may be configured on an individual component if layered pricing is not needed).

The pricing formula for component pricing is:

Individual component price X the number of layers

Using the example of a pizza and topping, each topping layer would increase the price of the overall cost of the order.

  • Each individual subsequent layer price is usually lower than the previous one. This allows the restaurant to offer a "deal" to the guest by offering attractive pricing on multiple toppings.
  • In the following example, if each layer was $1, the guest would be charged $4 for four layers instead of $2.40, which might be cost-prohibitive to a guest.

Example:

Pricing

LayerPrice per layerComponents' Total Price
(Price x number of layers)
1$1$1
2$.75$1.50
3$.70$2.10
4$.60$2.40

  • If the number of layers added exceeds the number of layers priced in ECM, then the last configured layer’s pricing is applied to the additional layers. For example, if four layers are priced and the guest orders six layers, the last two layers are at Layer 4's price.
  • Receipt: Priced components and serving options are shown on the receipt.

Configuration

  • In ECM, go to Products > Component Pricing. (This assumes that components and component categories have already been set up in ECM.)
  • Component pricing can be configured for the entire account, which will affect all sites in the account, or it can be configured for a single site so each site can manage their own pricing for their market area.
  • The steps to configure component pricing are the same, other than selecting a site.

Configure pricing for a site:

  • Select a site from the Site drop-down at top left.
  • Select a component category; the components in the selected category will display.
  • Click in the text field for each layer and enter the price for each layer.
    • It is advisable to decrease the price of layers as they increase if the portions in each additional component layer will be smaller. (For example, the space on a pizza is limited, so the portions for each layer decrease as layers are added.)
  • Click Save Changes

  • To reset the prices to the default configuration for the account (not for the site), click the circular arrow. The prices will revert to the default pricing.

Operation

  • Select an item with components that can be layered
  • Tap the component once; note the price for the layer (total components = $1)

  • Tap the component again; two layers are ordered, each layer shows the layer price (total components = $1.50)

  • Tap the component again; three layers are ordered, each layer shows the layer price (total components = $2.10)

  • Tap the component again; four layers are ordered, each layer shows the layer price (total components = $2.40)

Receipt
