Summary

Add menu item categories to group individual menu items by one or more categories. These categories are used to group items on menus, e.g., Beverages, Appetizers, etc., for easy ordering. 

Configuration

Click Add Menu Item Category to launch the Add window. 



  • Name 
    Enter the menu item category name. (This name will appear on the menu on the ordering screen.) 

  • Description 
    Enter a description.
     
  • Background Color 
    Click the drop-down arrow and make a selection from the color palette or enter an HTML color code. This is the background color for the menu item category button on the ordering screen. 
  • Tag 
    For third-party app development. This free-form field is used for programming actions based on the menu item category tag.
     
  • External Code 
    Used for third-party application integrations. Enter a code if needed for integration or leave blank if not. 

Flags
Enable or disable these settings for each menu item category as needed. 

  • Upsell - When enabled, an item from this category is randomly selected to be used as a promotional item in guest-facing UI. The selected menu item will be based on the guest's order and will not be an item that has been displayed previously. (Requires setting in Promotional Items.) 
  • Payment pre-authorization required - Requires payment pre-authorization before items can be ordered from this menu item category.
  • Display in guest UI - Allows menu items in the menu item category to be shown in the guest-facing UI. 
  • Display in staff UI - Allows menu items in the menu item category to be shown in the staff-facing UI. 
  • Display in convenience center - Allows menu items in the menu item category to be shown in the Convenience Center
