Below are some of the error messages that payment processors may return. (These messages are returned by the processor, not by Order Entry.) The processor messages display on the app screen and within the Mercury.log file from Order Entry.

Mercury Payment Systems

ValueDescription
DECLINEAuthorization was declined based on issuing bank response. Card brand regulations stipulate that declines should not be re-attempted but should be followed-up with a request for a second form of payment.

Issuer has placed a notice on the card and requests the merchant to call for a Voice Authorization.
PIC UPAuthorization Declined; authorization network requests picking up the card and reporting. See card brand regulations for details and appropriate action.
DECLINED-CV2 FAIL
INVLD CID
Card brand response for CVV2 mismatch.
INVALID EXP DATEExpiration date entered is incorrect, invalid or no longer current.
NO TRAN FOUNDFailed Reversal attempt.
INV ITEM NUMBERTypically triggered by an invalid RefNo used in VoidSales or an Adjust.

Reversal Outside Window:

Reversal transaction was received, but the original matching authorization request was processed more than 25 minutes ago and is no longer eligible to be reversed. (Applicable to Credit Host Capture only)

If the POS has received a RW response (25 minutes after the original Authorization), the transaction cannot be reversed (voided). The Merchant must issue a refund.

Action: If possible and the card can be present, run a general refund for the amount or contact the processor for reversing the charges.
