This guide is relevant for the following models:

Lantronix UDS2100 (2-port) Lantronix EDS4100 (4-port)

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Do NOT simultaneously install more than one Lantronix device at the same location. Default IP conflicts may occur if set up at the same time.

Before starting the install, copy these two folders from

\\hq-file1\Shared\Install\NorthStar\NorthStar Order Entry\NSOE Peripherals\Lantronix - Serial to IP

      • Device Installer
      • Secure Com Port Redirector

Transfer these two folders to the site installing the hardware.

    • Open the Device Installer folder and run setup_di_x86x64cd_4.4.0.2RC3.
    • Once installed, click on the Device Installer program; you will see the screen as shown below. Any Lantronix devices on the network should appear. If they do not, click Search.
    • Select your device and click Assign IP. You can assign an IP automatically or assign a static IP.

Once you've assigned an IP to the boxes, log in to their web configuration by inputting their IP addresses in a web browser. Their web configuration pages are also accessible in the Device Installer by clicking on the devices and clicking on the Web Configuration tab on the right. Each device has its own web configuration page:

UDS2100 (2-Port) - You don't need to change any settings. Web browser login: NONE

EDS4100 (4-Port) - You don't need to change any settings. Web browser login: admin/PASS

    • Open the Secure Com Port Redirector folder and run setup_cpr_x86x64cd_4.3.0.3 to install the 2nd program. This allows port assignment to the Lantronix boxes.
    • CPR Manager should now be installed.
(IMPORTANT NOTE: Inaccessible ports will be automatically detected on the left side under the Com Ports section)

    • Click Search For Devices.
    • Lantronix devices already on the network will appear in the lower area. Double-click the devices to expand them to show how many ports they have available. In the example below, a 2-Port (.200) and the 4-Port (.38) device are expanded.

    • Click Add/Remove on the top left to display all assignable virtual ports.

    • For a 4-port device, flag the next 4 available ports. Click OK when finished.
(NOTE: To remove the virtual ports, deselect the virtual ports and click OK. Click Save at the top)

    • The new ports are now highlighted in red and display (New) next to them.

    • Select the first new Com. Its settings will appear in the right pane.
    • Scroll down and find the Service, Host, and TCP Port section.

    • Select the empty box underneath Host
    • Type the IP address of your device under Host along with the corresponding TCP port (shown below).
(The first TCP port on these Lantronix boxes will always be 10001; in succession, the next would be 10002, 10003, 10004, etc. This is determined on how many physical ports are on that Lantronix box.)
    • The edited virtual port is now the first physical port of the Lantronix Serial-to-Ethernet Device. In the example, Com 7 is now physical Port 1 (TCP Port 10001).

    • (IMPORTANTIf you attempt to double-click to add the TCP port to the Host the device's TCP port list at the bottom will shrink (screenshot below). To show the available TCP Ports, expand the list. To expand the list, click on an inaccessible Com ports or away from the box.

Click on the next virtual com port you're going to assign. In this example, Com 8.

    • Repeat the previous steps; scroll down until you get to the Host and Service section of the Com's settings.
    • Click underneath Host area
    • Manually add the device's IP Address under Host then next its second TCP Port, 10002.

    • Repeat the process until you have added all of your ports. Click Save at the top. When finished, add the ports to their corresponding devices through the Peripherals tab in ECM.
    • Example: If a Customer Display Unit is attached to physical port 1 of the Lantronix box and Com 7 is associated with physical port 1, enter Com 7 in the Customer Display Unit's settings under Peripherals.
    • Linked devices can now communicate with the server.
