As of NorthStar Order Entry 4.9.1, the POS will allow for "Insert Any TimeAnytime" of credit card on the PAX reader, through EMV Quick Chip. This enhancement will speed up the check payment process, as the customer can insert the credit card and it will be captured, before the cashier completes the check, totaled the check or has select Credit Card on the Payment screen. This enhancement is ready for NorthStar 4.9.1 without changing any feature options or settings within ECM, and it is dependent on the PAX device configuration only.

Workflow

  • After the check has been started, or re-opened, if saved, the customer's credit card can be inserted into the PAX reader that says "Insert Anytime."
  • When prompted on the PAX reader, remove the customer's credit card, even if cashier is adding menu items, applying adjustments, or getting drinks.
  • Once the cashier has tapped Payment > External Card Reader icon or button, the PAX reader will be ready for Tip to be applied and processing, like it normally would if the credit card had been inserted after the cashier had tapped Payment > External Card Reader icon or button.

These videos below show the normal payment process , with the small change that if the card is being "Insert Any TimeAnytime":

Not all PAX credit card devices will support "Insert Any TimeAnytime." . The version of the PAX application and the processor (Heartland, TSYS, FDMS/FiServ, etc) will greatly determine whether or not the "Insert Any TimeAnytime" option is available for the the card reader.

If available for the PAX device, an option exists to enable both quick chip and "Insert Any TimeAnytime" for the PAX processor application. These settings are setup in the PAXStore for the device and pushed to the PAX card reader. Please see your PAX administrator to check for and enable the needed settings for PAX.
