PAX Aries8 device (Android based device)

The Aries8 device is expected to be the replacement for the PX7 device which is at End-Of-Life. Aries8 and other new Pax devices will use the Android OS.

It includes a Quick Setup Guide to go over hardware setup and power up: Aries8-Kit-07-20-2020.pdf

A major change in PAX Android devices, is that for some settings will no longer be in the PAXStore configuration, instead these settings will be setup on the device itself:

  • The device itself will need to be configured with network settings, like DHCP/Static IP, either WLAN/WIFI with password or Ethernet parameters for IP, Subnet, Gateway and DNS.
  • Display timeouts, screensaver and brightness are now controlled through Android and not configured in the PAXStore configuration.
  • Date, Time and Time Zone are now configured automatically in Android based on Network and location, unless changed on the device itself.

Warning: Some settings within Android like uninstalling Apps, notifications and password, may cause issues in the ability to use the device for Credit Card processing.

The Android device settings menu is password locked and will need to be opened. By default, the Android password is: pax9876@@ or 9876

If the password for the device Settings is changed, it should be saved in a secure location, as if lost, it will require the PAX device to be sent back to PAX - RMA for refurbishment.

On a new device setup:

  • Or for a new network, go to Settings on the device (above) and enter the password
    • Setup the WLAN, if available, to the WIFI Network or if not shown, add as needed with the Network SSID and password.

    • Or if using an ethernet cable, tap Ethernet, turn on the the option and enter Static IP information as needed to get connected.

  • Once finished the network info, scroll down on Settings menu to Display

  • Change the settings to Brightness, Sleep, Screensaver as desired and any other Display options.
    • It is recommended that Sleep be set to Never

Note: By default the screen will turn off the display after 1 min of inactivity if Sleep is not changed. If the PAX is allowed to go to "Sleep", ensure the setting for Wi-Fi "Keep WLAN on during sleep" is set to "Always" and/or Ethernet setup as well to not go to Sleep. Allowing the PAX to go to sleep and not allowing the network to connect, will cause issues with Batch Settling, updates and the device "waking up" when sent transactions.

PAXStore Updates and Information

After the device is connected to the network and is visible to PAXStore, new apps/parameters and device configuration can be sent from either PAXStore or from the PAXStore app on the device.

The web PAXStore configuration tool (paxstore.us) with the PAX Android device includes:

  • When logged in to the PAXStore, all PAX Android devices registered to the account are shown on a map. Users can zoom in to an account or specific device. Location must be allowed on the PAX device to use this feature.

  • Terminal Details: An interactive dashboard in PAXStore provides detailed information on each PAX device in real-time.

  • Restart Terminal:  Allows users to remotely restart the device.
  • Message system: Send messages, update notifications or troubleshoot devices using the message system. There may be a 10-20 sync delay.

  • Merchant Detail:
    • Volume, location, brightness and other terminal settings can be set for all PAX Android devices on the Merchant Detail page in PAXStore.
    • Save and enter your PAXStore password and the change will be synchronized immediately.

  • Push Deploy:
    • When a push deploy is sent with configuration or app updates from PAXStore with immediate push, a message on the PAX device allows users the option to settle/close any active batches before applying the update.
    • If "Not Now" is selected, the update will not be applied until the batch is automatically settled. It can also be scheduled in PAXStore by date/time.
