This guide is relevant for the following models:
- Lantronix UDS2100 (2-port)
- Lantronix EDS4100 (4-port)
If you are installing more than one Lantronix device at a location, they must be installed ONE AT A TIME. Default IP conflicts may occur if set up at the same time.
Before starting the install, copy these two folders from \\hq-file1\Shared\Install\NorthStar\NorthStar Order Entry\NSOE Peripherals\Lantronix - Serial to IP.
- Device Installer
- Secure Com Port Redirector
After transferring these two folders to the site on which you're installing the hardware, you will install them.
Step 1:
- Open the Device Installer folder and run the setup_di_x86x64cd_4.4.0.2RC3 program. It's straightforward.
- Once installed, click on the Device Installer program and you will see this screen. It should immediately show all the Lantronix devices on the network. If it doesn't populate, you can click SEARCH on the top left and it will detect them all.
- Click the device name, then click Assign IP. In this option, you can assign an IP automatically or assign a static IP to the boxes.
- Once you've assigned a proper IP to the boxes, log in to their web configuration by inputting their IP addresses in a web browser. You can also access their web configuration pages in the Device Installer by clicking on the devices and clicking on the Web Configuration tab on the right. Each hasa different web configuration page:
UDS2100 (2-Port) - You don't need to change any settings.
Web browser login: NONE
EDS4100 (4-Port) - You don't need to change any settings
Web browser login: admin/PASS
Step 2:
- Open the Secure Com Port Redirector folder then run the program setup_cpr_x86x64cd_4.3.0.3 to install the 2nd program that will allow you to assign ports to the Lantronix boxes.
- This will install the CPR Manager. The screen will look like this when first opened.
(IMPORTANT NOTE: It will detect which ports are immediately inaccessible on the left side under the Com Ports section)
- Press Search For Devices; this will populate the lower area with any Lantronix devices you have on the network. Double-click the devices to expand them to show how many ports they have available. In the screenshot, I have both the 2-Port (.200) and the 4-Port (.38) devices expanded.
- Click Add/Remove on the top left to display all the available virtual ports that can be assigned to the Lantronix boxes.
- Since I'm working with the 4-port, I'll be flagging the next 4 available ports on this screen. For this, I chose #7 to #10 and clicked OK.
(NOTE: If you want to remove the virtual ports, go to this screen and deselect the virtual ports you don't want, click OK then click Save at the top)
- After this, it will display the ports you just flagged on the left side under Com Ports. They will be highlighted in red with the word New to indicate they were just added.
- Next click on one of the coms you just created. I will click on Com 7 to show the settings for that Com in the right pane.
- Scroll down to the bottom of its settings until you see the Service, Host, and TCP Port section.
- Click on the 1st empty area under Host
- Highlight the first TCP port on your device at the bottom, then type in the IP address of your device under Host along with the corresponding TCP port (shown below).
(The first TCP port on these Lantronix boxes will always be 10001; in succession the next would be 10002, 10003, 10004, etc. This is determined on how many physical ports are on that Lantronix box.) - This will now associate that first physical port on the box to be the virtual port you've chosen to edit this with. In this instance, Com 7 is now Physical Port 1 (TCP Port 10001).
(IMPORTANT: If you attempt to double-click to add the TCP port to the Host, it will shrink the device's TCP port list at the bottom (shown in screenshot below). You will have to click on any of the inaccessible com ports or away from the box because you will need to expand the device again by double-clicking it to show the next available TCP Ports.)
- You can click on the next virtual com port you're going to assign. For this part, it would be Com 8.
- As before, scroll down till you get to the Host and Service section of the Com's settings.
- Click on the 1st Host area again
- Manually add the device's IP Address under Host then next its second TCP Port–which would be 10002–and it will add it.
- Add the next consecutive virtual ports in the same manner, then hit SAVE at the top. When finished, you can input them under the site's Peripherals tab in ECM that corresponds with where the physical device is attached to on the Lantronix.
Example: Since I assigned Com 7 to the physical port 1 on the Lantronix box, then if I attach a Customer Display Unit on the Lantronix box on the physical port 1, then I will enter it as Com 7 in ECM. - COMPLETED.
