As of NorthStar Order Entry 4.9.1, the POS will allow for "Insert Anytime" of credit card on the PAX reader, through EMV Quick Chip. There is no feature options or settings within ECM that needs to configured, however, it will require that the PAX configuration be updated for each PAX device in PAXStore.

...

Using the Site or Serial Numbers for any PAX devices that should be updated to use "Insert Anytime," you will need to have PAXStore configured for these EMV settings:

  • Enable Quick Chip
  • Allow Insert Anytime
  • Quick Chip Reset Timer(100ms) - this is for how long should the PAX reader hold the credit card info, before resetting automatically if Order Entry has not sent a payment command. Usually the default time is 30 seconds to 60 seconds and is entered in 100 microseconds intervals, like 300 or 600.

These settings may be named similar, but slightly different between processors, or might not be available depending on the version of the application for the device.

Users of PAXStore can usually find, Enable and add a value to these settings, at :

  • On Communication tab find and enable Http/Https Browser Cancel Mode (this allows for Order Entry to cancel/reset the PAX card data for a new check)
  • At the bottom of the EMV tab for the device App configuration, in the QUICK CHIP PARAMETERS section:
    • Enable Quick Chip in most cases this can be enabled regardless, as long as Insert Anytime, enabled or disabled, is present. Enable Quick Chip allows for faster read of EMV chips and removing of the card before the transaction has completed with the processor.
    • Allow Insert Anytime - allows the card info to be held on the PAX reader, without waiting for the Payment and Card Reader buttons to be pressed on Order Entry.

If the setting where Allow Insert Anytime is NOT present under EMV > QUICK CHIP PARAMETERS, it might be on the MISC tab, again depending on PAX device, processor and app version. The parameter may be renamed in different PAXStore apps, Allow Insert Anytime could be called something like: Insert Any Time. The "Insert" setting is for EMV Chip reader and is different from the Swipe Any Time setting which is generally referring to the Mag Stripe reader, shown below:
